About

ON JUNE 6th,7th, 8th A Steady & Irresistible Wind (StIrWind) will take place in several forms over the 3 day Summit with the main performance happening on the 2nd day (7th).

As a placed-based work I've been researching the history of the University of MN, Morris (UMM). In 1887 this location became a Native American Boarding school that would go on to board hundreds of  native children for the next 20 years. In my research I continue to struggle with the vastness of this and all its implications.

From faculty interviews I've learned that today, UMM is one of the nations leaders in developing sustainable agricultural processes and in supporting and innovating renewable energy research projects with wind and solar. I listened to students and teachers speak about these programs with more than just enthusiasm. They spoke with urgency and passion.

“A Steady and Irresistible Wind,” a site-specific, place-based performance installation created by artist Bethany Lacktorin, which will take place during the Summit on and nearby the University of Minnesota, Morris campus. A follow up to Lacktorin’s performance, My Ocean (2016), this piece is an ongoing exploration of diaspora where displacement, transition and growth as it occurs culturally, agriculturally, mentally and socially are expressed in story, music, movement and sound.
